While some hospitals, medical associations, and malpractice insurance companies have established programs for defendant support, the field is underdeveloped to meet the needs of physicians working today.
Note that it is particularly useful for defendants to work with mental health professionals who are experienced with and understand the complexity and nuance of litigation stress.
Further, regarding peer resource groups, one cannot simply find a room for physicians with stressors in common and have them talk to one another. Groups require clear guidelines, including agreements to maintain privacy and confidentiality, not to discuss details of active lawsuits, and to focus on the emotional experience, personal impact, coping, and mutual support.
